Preaching Genesis 46:1-27, when you don't know what to do

 Genesis 46:1-27,

when you don't know what to do

 Topic

When the moment comes when we have to go on an unexpected journey, let us ask for God's guidance and make a bold decision and act.

 Key question

What should our province do when it has to go on an unthinkable journey?

1. Introduction

I am so glad and glad to hear that his son Joseph is alive, but Jacob is at odds because of this news. Should we stay in the land of promise where famine is severe, or should we go down to Egypt where our son Joseph is? What would you do?

Corona 19 is going through something we've never experienced before. What should we do at a time when church services are suspended?

Joseph goes to meet his father.

2. Text

(1) Seek the will of God.

So Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. (Genesis 46:1, ESV).

Jacob takes all his luggage and leaves for Egypt. From Hebron to Beersheba, Jacob offers sacrifices to God. Beersheba was the place where his grandfather Abraham called the name of God, and gave his father Isaac his promise of his descendants.

Jacob is offering sacrifices to God in Beersheba to confirm that it is God's will to leave Canaan, the land of promise, and go to Egypt.

God tells us when we do not know what to choose and when we humbly lie down before God and pray to God for his will.

(2) Be sure of God's will.

God informs Jacob of his will to offer sacrifices and seek his will.

Then he said, "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.(Genesis 46:3, ESV)

To Jacob, Egypt was a strange land, but Abraham had a hard time in Egypt, and his father Isaac also had a hard time in Egypt. God must have been afraid because he once told Isaac not to go down to Egypt (Genesis 26:2).

But God tells Jacob that he will go to Egypt without fear. He said that it was God's will, and Jacob became convinced of God's will.

There is fear of a new environment and situation, but God will lead us the best way when we move forward with faith, convinced of God's great plans and wills.

(3) Jacob went down to Egypt.

Jacob, who confirmed God's will in Beersheba, went down to Egypt without delay with all his family.

They also took their livestock and their goods, which they had gained in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him(Genesis 46:6, ESV)

Jacob's family obeyed God's will and went down to Egypt to meet Joseph. And they will be the main characters of the history that God will proceed.

See the goodness of your word of God, don't hesitate to act by beliefs. When you act with faith, God fulfills your will.

3. Conclusion

When he did not know what to do, Jacob sought God's will. After confirming God's will, he immediately took action and went down to Egypt. We may also have moments of conflict and difficulty, but I hope you ask God's will in prayer each time. And if you have found God's will, do not doubt it, but act according to it in faith. God will surely be our guide and bless us.

Let's make today a day of asking God and obeying God's will.

4. Prayer

There are moments of conflict and choice in our lives. But I don't know what to choose. Let God kneel quietly and pray when he is embarrassed because he does not know what is God's will. Let us not miss our prayers, and let us know the will of God when we pray.

Let this day be a life of God's will in faith, and let only God be trusted. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

5. Prayer title

Do not live according to my thoughts; ask God's will every day and obey him immediately.

Give grace to the Ministry of Education, the heads of departments and teachers, and give love and wisdom.

Give comfort and peace to the elders and fellow patients and to the afflicted saints.
