Jacob continues to prophesy his sons. The prophecies of these people are about their future history in Canaan.
Genesis 49:13-28, God fills up as much as much as you can.
1. Entering
Jacob made a will and prophesied to his four sons Reuben, Simeon and Levi, and Judah about their future. Especially Reuben, Simeon, and Levi's evil deeds were cursed. They declared the God of righteousness who pays back according to their deeds. And he declared that the Messiah would come from his descendants with blessing to his son Judah, who had sacrificed and devoted himself.
Today's text contains Jacob's prophecy of the other eight sons, except for the four sons. And Jacob blessed his sons with what they had.
These were the twelve tribes of Israel, and their fathers spoke to them and blessed them, and soon blessed them according to the amount of each of them (Genesis 49:28, Revised Bible).
2. In the text
(1) God fills as much as we believe.
God, who gives us a mission that each of us can afford, allows us to be able to handle it.
(2) God is sovereign.
Because all blessings come from God. Because God is the one who blesses us, and the sovereign who gives us power and mission. What we have is not what I have achieved, but what God has lent us throughout our lives.
The meaning that God is a sovereign is a reason why we should not show ourselves and be arrogant. Give us as much power as we need to achieve our mission as we need to not glorify God and not let me steal it.
(3) The content of Jacob's blessing illustrates that fact.
In today's text Jacob prophesies and blesses for his eight sons. Blessed are Jacob's sons based on their lives and their faith. And this prophecy does not end in the personal lives of sons, but furthermore foretells the future of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Although they remain in the land of Egypt, God has taught them what areas of the tribe will occupy in Canaan, the land that God promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and what characteristics will they live in?
All these prophecies are determined by the full sovereign providence of God and the amount of the people's faith. Abraham believed in the promise of the descendants of God that he had given in a situation where nothing could be expected. Isaac also stayed in Canaan, believing in God's promise. And Jacob is down in Egypt, convinced that God will lead him back to the land of Canaan.
Jesus, who died on the cross and resurrected, appeared to his disciples, who were afraid of the Jews, and declared peace. And there's something you said to Doma.
Jesus says, "Do you believe me as you see me? Blessed are those who do not see me."
The cutting board, which proved the gospel when it saw Jesus who was resurrected amid the persecution of Jews, was a precious worker, but blessed him who believed without seeing the resurrected Jesus. We are human beings who want to see it with our own eyes, but those who believe in the word of the Lord and obey it without seeing it are truly blessed saints. God, the source of their blessings, gives them grace and blessings.
Faith is the reality of what you want, of what you can't see.
Are you ready for God's mission and good fortune by faith?
3. On your way out
Let us not forget that God poured and filled as much as the amount of faith. Let us realize that the amount of my faith does not end in my life, but affects the future of my children and descendants, and that we have a right relationship with God and obey the word.
...to keep his commands, decrees, and laws, and you will survive and thrive. And your God the Lord will bless you in the land you will go and possess.
Let us walk the path of faith today, with absolute trust in God, who fills the amount of faith and uses us. God will guide those who trust in God and will be responsible for a prosperous future.
4. Prayer
God, let us not forget God, the master of our lives today. Remember that all we have is God's gift, and let us not be arrogant. Help me humbly serve God and live in trust.
Give peace, joy, and faith to me and my family, who trust only God.
I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
